A police officer who raped a Form Two girl inside police cells has been apprehended.
The incident occurred on Sunday at Kaptumo Police Station where the girl was confined in custody.
Police Constable Jared Okada allegedly defiled the secondary school student within the precincts of Kaptumo Police Station, Nandi County, and then disappeared.
Confirming the arrest, Nandi South police boss Peter Mbua said the officer was spotted on Monday evening at his hideout where detectives who have been on his trail swooped down upon him.
Okada was on Tuesday arraigned before a Kapsabet court where he took a plea against his personal miscellaneous application and will remain in police custody for a few days pending further investigations.
The constable is attached to Kaptumo Police Station in Aldai, Nandi County.
According to reports, the girl had sorted child care and protection pending a case, when the incident took place.
However, in a strange turn of events, it is alleged that the officer seized the opportunity, went to the cell where the girl was held and asked the victim to follow him to another room, where he ordered her to undress and repeatedly defiled her.
After committing the heinous offence, the officer allegedly gave her KES 1000 in order not to reveal the incident to anyone.
The girl narrated the ordeal to her father who reported the matter to the police. The minor has since been taken to hospital for a medical examination that conclusively established she was sexually molested.
The Area Police Commander confirmed the details of the incident saying the officer will be charged with defilement.
