A former manager with a Dutch Cargo Company based at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) Nairobi has been sentenced to 30 years imprisonment for murdering a former Kenya Defence Force (KDF) officer four years ago.
Richard Mwangi Mugo, 58 was handed the sentence by Milimani High Court Judge Daniel Ogembo who convicted him for murdering John Machimbo Litala, 55 in the wee hours of December 3, 2018 at the Eastern Bypass Road at Njiru.
Before his arrest and prosecution, Mugo was a senior operations manager with Swiss Port Kenya Limited, a Dutch Cargo Company based at the JKIA.
Before killing the KDF officer, Mugo, a father of three, had transferred Sh10,700 from the deceased’s mobile phone to his.
Mugo immediately thereafter transferred the money again to another number belonging to Dennis Karima Gachoka.
The judge said signals from the deceased’s and Mugo’s cell phones placed them at the murder scene.
Justice Ogembo said it could not have been a coincidence that Mugo was at the scene of crime with the deceased if he was not the killer.
He was given 14 days to appeal.
