Flamboyant city lawyer Fred Odumo Nying’uro recently held consultations with Chief Justice Martha Koome on the sidelines of a buffet to bid farewell to former Judiciary Chief Registrar Ann Otieno Amadi.
At 58 years and with two more years to go before attaining her retirement age, judiciary’s Chief Registrar Anne Otieno Amadi bowed out of public service, after serving the required ten-year term. The mother of four was born in the mid-sixties in Marsabit before her late parents relocated and settled in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County.
Amadi served a total of 17 years in the Judiciary having joined judicial service as a District Magistrate in 1990. Her first station was Kisumu where she rose to be a Resident Magistrate before joining private legal practice between 1997 and 2003.
The Chief Registrar’s face is synonymous with Kenya’s recent legal milestones including when Kenya ushered in a New Constitution in 2010, when Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta was sworn in as President in 2013 and 2017 and when Kenya got her first female Chief Justice.
Late last year Amadi was hounded by political wheeler-dealers leading to the suspension of her bank accounts and incrimination in a questionable gold scam.
During her farewell party, however, the creme-dela-creme of Kenya’s legal fraternity came together.
Among them was distinguished lawyer and Kisumu County Senatorial aspirant Wakili Fred Odumo Nying’uro.
Meanwhile, the war between the Executive and the Judiciary is turning out not to be a mere war against corruption but a fight to win control of the heart and soul of Kenya’s court system.
