Tomorrow will be a big day for Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party officials in the whole of Muhoroni sub-County as Nairobi lawyer Fred Odumo Nying’uro converges at Masogo Hall for a meeting to discuss party matters and development.

The meeting is slated to begin at nine in the morning and all the officials who have received an invite are expected to come up with concrete suggestions on how to strengthen the party in Muhoroni sub-County as well as propel the ongoing registration of new party members.

In October last year the Muhoroni ODM Party Branch was rocked by a series of defections, the significant one being that of longtime Raila ally Prof. Ayiecho Olweny.

At the time, there were rumours that Olweny was haunted out of the party by newcomers who felt threatened by his popularity.

Apunda Magwar the Nyando sub-County ODM Party Branch chairman dismissed the claims as baseless saying Olweny was simply running away from his own shadow after betraying the party fraternity.

Apunda pointed out that Olweny has benefited immensely from Raila and was now earning a pension of KES 250,000 monthly after serving two consecutive terms as Muhoroni MP.

“It was through the support of Raila that Olweny secured an ODM party ticket and got elected as Muhoroni MP in 2002, before being re-elected in 2007,” Apunda said.

Olweny he said, was later appointed the assistant Education minister during the grand coalition government courtesy of Raila Amollo Odinga. That he chose to move out at a time when Raila was conducting countrywide recruitment was an act of sabotage, according to Apunda.

Tomorrow Fred Odumo Nying’uro will be discussing with the Muhoroni sub-County ODM Party officials new strategies for popularizing the party and effective procedures for membership recruitment.
