Police in Gem, Siaya County Investigate 3 Homicide Cases Under 1 Month

Police in Gem Yala, Siaya County are investigating the death of a 40-year-old man who died by suicide. The incident closely follows on two other homicide cases to have occurred within the same area in less than a month.

Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo said the incident happened at Omindo village in East Gem location.

“The body of the man was found hanging from a tree in the homestead of one Rosemary Atieno Onyango,” Kimaiyo said.

Police added that the deceased has since been identified as Odongo Odinya.

The matter was reported to Yala police station by area Chief George Odhiambo Salala.

“My brother was a casual laborer. He left home in the afternoon to do some work only to be found dead moments later,” Ambrose Otieno noted.

The body was taken to Yala Sub County Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.

Early this month Police in Gem Wagai sub-county, Siaya County investigated the mysterious death of a Ugandan national whose body was found lying beside a road along Akala-Luanda Road.

Confirming the incident, Siaya Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo said officers from Akala police station and Kambare police post visited the scene and found the body lying on the ground with no visible injuries.

He also confirmed that the body was established to belong to a Ugandan national identified as Alex Atoka.

Kimaiyo further stated that the officers searched the deceased’s pockets and found a hospital book from Akala Health Center inscribed with a doctor’s notes showing that he had been diagnosed with malaria and asthma.

The body was moved to Bondo sub-county hospital mortuary for postmortem as investigations into the mysterious death continued.

Early last month Police in Gem, Yala sub-county in Siaya County investigated the murder of a 14-year-old boy reported to have been attacked by a neighbour and hit with a blunt object on the head.

Barack Obama Otieno is reported to have been attacked by a neighbour identified as Charles Ouma Otuor following a disagreement, hitting him on the head and leaving him for dead.

The suspect in the murder escaped a police dragnet and it is not yet clear whether he has been apprehended to-date.
