Business came to a standstill at the central business district of Eldoret town as residents turned up in huge numbers to hold a candle-lit vigil for the late world record marathoner.
Eldoret residents held a vigil for the late athlete Kevin Kiptum. Scores of residents turned up for the event held Wednesday, Feb 21 where they held candles and sang songs in his honour.
The event was marked from 6 pm to 9 pm, beginning at the Eldoret Arboretum to the Korosiot roundabout where different youths, local athletes, and business communities congregated, celebrating his memory.
Meanwhile, CS Ababu Namwamba Wednesday, Feb 21st attended the funeral of Kiptum’s coach in Rwanda.
“The death of Kevin Kiptum has been a horridly painful experience for me,” CS Ababu said while addressing mourners.
“Kevin has been almost like a son to me. He was a brilliant young man, self-driven and rising from the grass; the best manifestation of bottom up. To lose him at a time when he was just starting off is heartbreaking,” further added Namwamba.
The 24-year-old athlete died on 11th February in a grisly road accident together with his coach Gervais Hakizimana near Kaptagat Forest.
A screenshot of the funeral program has been shared online with most plans remaining scanty. President Ruto is expected at the funeral.
