Immediately after the burial of renowned marathoner Kelvin Kiptum at Chepkorio village in Elgeyo Marakwet, drama with great political significance unfolded on the sidelines

Trying to whisper something to the President, Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Kipchumba Sudi walked next to the president on the red carpet as he left the dais towards his transportation.

Unceremoniously President William Samoei Ruto pushed Oscar Sudi aside to create room beside himself for his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua.

Lately there’s been talk that the president was not seeing eye to eye on certain crucial issues with his Deputy.

The president and the rest of the dignitaries were just leaving the venue when his kinsman and one who has repeatedly said he belonged to the kitchen cabinet was physically elbowed out. Obviously the president was not going to stand for a protocol breach.

Sudi, who was trying to have a word with Ruto suggestively walked into the DP’s path and in the process, obstructed him.

Ruto quickly pushed Sudi away, leaving him and his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua walking on the red carpet.

It was an act that elicited mixed reactions from Kenyans, with most of them coming out to hail Ruto for ‘protecting’ his Deputy.

Both Ababu Namwamba and Wycliffe Musalia Musalia appeared to understand their place in protocol.

During his inauguration speech , President Ruto promised that he would never allow his Deputy to suffer any indignity or be mistreated by anybody the way former President Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta ‘mistreated’ him during the Jubilee party regime.
