Rarieda Member of Parliament Paul Otiende Amollo has dismissed claims by Raila Odinga’s brother Oburu Oginga, and wife Mama Ida Odinga, on who to succeed the ODM boss should he win the African Union Commission chairmanship position.
Few weeks ago, Oburu argued that the Minority leader in the National Assembly Opiyo Wandayi makes a good successor for Raila, with Mama Ida Odinga being quoted as saying Nominated MP and the ODM national chair John Mbadi is the best to take over from Raila.
In an interview with KTN breakfast show on Tuesday, Amollo argued that the discussion on succession is ill-timed, adding that successors are not named, they build a name for themselves and emerge in the political space.
“There is no vacuum be it in ODM or Azimio and therefore all these talks on succession are pre-mature.”
“We have a long way to go and Raila has himself said that he is interested in the AU Commission chair, and has not said after getting that position, he will exit politics in its entirety so the issue of vacuum should not arise.”
“Experience also shows that successors are never named, they emerge. There is no process of sitting down and naming who should take after who. Who named Raila as the leader of ODM or opposition? Who named Ruto? Who named Kalonzo? They all emerged,” said the fiery ODM lawmaker.
