A security officer attached to the Siaya Governor’s office has gone missing.
Nicholas Ooro who originally hails from Uyoma in Rarieda sub-county of Siaya was last seen at his post in the Siaya County Government Headquarters building around 6:45 pm on Monday 26 February 2024.
Sources have confirmed that he had reported for night shift duty, although usually he’s deployed to work daytime. The same sources confirmed that in the last week, there have been radical changes among enforcement officers at the county headquarters due to yet-to-be-verified reasons.
Unconfirmed reports also indicate that four officers guarding the Governor’s office were arrested last week on unknown charges.
Such posters have been shared on Facebook raising further alarm as to the whereabouts of Nick Ooro.
Shockingly reports have been circulating on social media Wednesday that Nicholas Ooro’s clothing and phone have been recovered but no signs of his whereabouts. The reports have been pointing out to the conspicuous silence from the authorities at the Governor’s office.
At around 4:00 pm the County Secretary and Head of Public Service, Mr. Joseph Ogutu issued an official statement over the disappearance of the County employee.
The statement corroborated fears that Nick Ooro is missing without trace.
The statement says he reported for night duty on Monday evening as stated but when his colleague came to relieve him yesterday morning there was no sign of Nick Ooro. Instead his tattered uniform shirt and beret, together with his cellphone handset were recovered.
The scene looked disturbed pointing to a scuffle.
Contrary to social media claims that the office of the Governor was conspicuously quite over the matter, Mr. Ogutu stated that the police were immediately appraised and investigations are ongoing.
Mr. Ogutu also appealed to the public to share information with the police if they have any leads as to Nick Ooro’s whereabouts.
Youthful Nick Ooro is said to be recently married and has a young family.
