More details have emerged on the abduction incident involving Nicholas Ooro, the missing Siaya County enforcement officer who was found alive by the roadside this morning in Vihiga sub-County.
Ooro aged 37 was found early Thursday morning by passersby bundled in a gunny-bug thrown by the roadside and nursing visible signs of having been tortured.
Police were alerted by the public about the discovery and DCI detectives from Vihiga took the victim to hospital as they waited for their Siaya counterparts to go and pick him up.
Ooro’s relatives on Wednesday expressed fears about his disappearance as they called on the police to do whatever possible to help them find their kin.
His wife Mary Auma said they learnt of his disappearance when his colleagues visited their home in Rarieda sub-County to inquire about his whereabouts.
Auma said her husband left home for work as usual on Monday evening but didn’t return home the following day.
“My husband’s colleagues came to my house yesterday asking about his whereabouts, but we hadn’t seen him. When I asked why they were looking for him, they played dumb noting that they had come to pick him up for work. Later, my brother called informing me that his body hadn’t been recovered but his uniform and phone had,” Auma told reporters in Siaya town on Wednesday.
Later in the day, Siaya County Secretary Joseph Ogutu had confirmed that Ooro was an employee of the Siaya County Government and that he had been reported missing.
Ogutu asked the public to volunteer information to aid police in the ongoing probe into Ooro’s disappearance.
“Ooro has gone missing since Tuesday. The matter was reported to Siaya Police Station. Ooro’s family has been notified and the police have recorded statements from various county government officers and family members to aid in the ongoing investigations,” Ogutu said.
Although his abductors applied force to remove him from his work station, it is not yet clear why they should dump him by the roadside in neighbouring Vihiga sub-County.
The County Government of Siaya has not reported any breaking-in at the County headquarters further raising concerns on the motive of his abduction.
One random thought doing rounds on social media is that Ooro was being used as an example to send a warning to someone else or a group of people.
Recently five Enforcement Officers are said to have been questioned over an undisclosed matter by their employer.
Nicholas Ooro’s station was at the County Revenue Offices.
