A sitting Member of Parliament and a Woman Representative are lucky to be alive after a daring attack by the notorious north rift region bandits.
Baringo North MP Joseph Makilap and Baringo County Woman Representative Florence Jematian today (Saturday 16 March 2024) escaped death by a whisker when suspected bandits sprayed their convoy with a heavy hail of bullets.
Reports indicate the two leaders were involved in a foodstuff distribution exercise at Chepkesin before their motorcade ran into an ambush as they left the scene.
It was not yet immediately clear if the two leaders or their escorts escaped the ambush unscathed but preliminary reports indicate they were alive shortly after running into the heavy gunfire.
The incident occurred in the proximity of the area where a sitting Member of County Assembly was gunned down only a few days ago.
Paul Leshimpiro, the Member of County Assembly (MCA) of Angata Nanyekie Ward in Samburu County was shot dead by bandits.
According to reports, the MCA was coming from Maralal town when he was accosted by marauding bandits at around 11.00 am and his car was similarly sprayed with bullets.
These daring daytime attacks come closely in the wake of a declaration by Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary, Kithure Kindiki, that the government had mooted a strategy to weed out the bandit menace once and for all time.
