Team Fred Odumo Nying’uro recently completed the second phase of maize seed distribution as promised to Kano Youth Community Based Organisation.

Led by Mr Zadok Munda, Walter Oron, Mika Obat and Fred Okwiri Team Nying’uro presented certified maize seeds in readiness for the planting season.

Wakili Fred Odumo Nying’uro has a soft spot for the youth especially the Kano Youth CBO which has shown a lot of initiative in poultry, horticulture and rice farming.

Mr. Nying’uro has been interested in the group because of its youthful members who have decided to eke out a living in the rural areas rather than migrate to towns.

According to a World Food Organization (WFO) report almost 60 percent of Africans are under the age of 25. In 2020, the median age in Africa was 20 years. By 2100, almost half of the world’s youth (46 percent) are expected to be from Africa. Compared to previous generations, Africa’s youth is more educated, less encumbered by family responsibilities, and more likely to be unemployed. All these factors suggest that the younger generation may be more ready to migrate in response to climate disruptions.

Studies on climate mobility in Africa have found those under the age of 34 are more inclined to migrate, particularly if they are unmarried and educated. For example, in Kenya, youth with at least primary education are twice as likely to move in response to climate stressors than those lacking education. Meanwhile, in Zambia, Kenya, and Uganda, both young men and women are less mobile when they are married.

The Team delivered the message that Wakili Fred Odumo Nying’uro is ready and willing to continue his support of youthful members of society in all their endeavours to be economically empowered.
