Siaya: US Government to Continue Support in Combating TB, HIV and Malaria

The United States of America through it’s Ministry of Health will continued it’s partnership with Siaya county government and fund programmes aimed at reducing TB, HIV and Malaria.

The partnership is said to have influenced policies that has saved the continent.
According to Andrea Palm, the Deputy Secretary of Department of health and Human Services, owing to the fact that Siaya was a center of the many researches, we shall continue the partnership.

Palm lauded the partnership on research activities whose results has influenced policies and vaccines that responded positively to Malaria, TB and HIV deseases
“the partnership between Siaya and KEMRI/ CDC has done impactful job not only to the people of this community but to Kenyans and the globe.

“What happened here interns of research “work” has impacted policy that was adopted by World Health Organisation, US ministry of Health hence influencing health behavior of the entire Continent,” said Ms Palm.

She thanked Siaya people for saving lives.
“We thank all of you for the ways in which you have contributed to strategies for saving life. We are first privileged to be in partnership with all of you.

Governor Orengo noted that a lot of achievements have been realized as a result of our partnership with the United States of America and it’s Agencies.

.”This is a demonstration at the grassroots that the work we deed is great and has impacted positively in the community,”

Siaya’s diseases burden was one of the highest in Kenya but with the assistance from friends and partners , some of those figures that placed us in bad limelight have beed addressed
one of the indicators is that the level of HIV prevalence about 2-3 years ago was over 27 percent and it’s now 13 percent.

“The Mother to child transmission (PMTCT) has been reduced from 8.3 percent in 2014 to 4.3 percent a figure that is below the National average.,”
“I hope this programe is going to continue more so the existing partnership. Have heard the donors says that we have come of age and should take over some of the responsibilities….we have not yet come of age,” said Orengo
“we still need you r support,”
Orengo said they do reserve 30 percent of the county budget to health but still it’s inadequate to facilitate quality healthcare.

Siaya Speaker George Okode while adressing the same gathering as legislators, they are going to ensure conducive environment for collaboration interns of good will, resources, policy legislation .
“On behalf of the assembly we appreciate the work the American government through KEMRI CDC has done in our region,” said Okode.

Heath Executive Dr Martin K’Onyango hailed the PEPFER programe that has helped fight the HIV scourge.

“There are comprehensive strategies put in place to monitor those on ARVs and tame new infections,” said K’Onyango.
K’Onyango said he was committed towards ensuring that Siaya is healthy.

Heath Chief officer Samuel Owino said he is focused on initiatives that would see Siaya residents access quality healthcare.
