Civil rights activist David Kose Oyombe has written to the Inspector General of Police concerning a threat to his life.
Oyombe was approached by two people dressed in civilian clothing and wearing gun holsters who demanded he stop his activism or else he faces unspecified consequences.
In the letter seen by DalanewsKe, and stamped as received by the Nation Media Group, Oyombe claims that on the 29 day of March 2024 he was subjected to a harrowing experience when he was accosted by the two smartly dressed individuals carrying pistols.
Since then he confesses to be thoroughly shaken and pleads for protection.
In the crusade to safeguard the interests of the residents of Kibra, Oyombe has confronted state organs as well as individuals engaging in corruption. Lately he’s mentioned names of powerful political figures and business people such as Peter Ngatia, Davidson Ngibuini and David Sudi.
“The assailants made explicit threats,” said Rotarian Oyombe, adding “I was accosted right outside my business premises at Toi Market in Kibra, Nairobi County”
Human rights activists are often subjected to covert harrowing experiences both by the establishment and hired miscreants. It is not yet clear from which camp the people who threatened Oyombe belonged.
