The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) wants the government through the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to streamline issues of teacher promotion and ensure that the teachers who are due for promotion are promoted.
KUPPET Secretary General Akelo Misori on Tuesday said they will call for a nationwide strike to push the TSC to streamline teachers’ promotion in the country if their demand is not adhered to soon.
Misori said many teachers have stagnated in one job group for many years and the TSC must also be clear on this.
He said many teachers who have stagnated in one job group for years have been demoralised.
Misori said they noted that names of some of the teachers who were recently promoted by TSC after the parliament approved some funds for teachers’ promotion have either died or retired yet many teachers who are due for promotion have not been promoted.
