Former Riruta MCA Samuel Njoroge has been sentenced to 30 years in jail for the murder of his wife.
Njambi died on January 26, 2018, at the Kenyatta National Hospital where she was receiving treatment after allegedly being raped and doused in acid by people who kidnapped her from her house at Thindigua along Kiambu road on January 24, 2018.
She was buried later at her parent’s home in Karembu village in Gatundu South constituency.
Njoroge, her husband, was found guilty of the murder of Lucy Njambi.
Kiambu High Court Judge Joel Ngugi on Friday handed the 30-year sentence to Njoroge alongside his co-accused Joyce Njambi and Wilson Mwangi.
In convicting Njoroge and his co-accused, Justice Ngugi said the evidence was plain and clear that the former MCA was an excessively jealous and insecure husband who had previously physically assaulted Njambi.
“To determine the appropriate sentence in which it will be legitimately imposed includes to punish the offender to the extent and in a manner which is just in all the circumstances,” he said.
“The punishment is to deter the offender or other persons from committing offences of the same character. It is also to establish conditions which may facilitate rehabilitation of the offender, to manifest the denunciation by the court of the conduct in question and to protect the community.”
Njambi was found by Good Samaritans in a coffee estate in Magumoini off Kiambu-Ruiru Road.
It was approximately 9:15pm when the passersby heard muffled screams for help down the road.
They found a shocking scene: a naked lady who appeared to have been badly burnt.
Njambi’s body had been doused in acid.
Evidence produced in court by the prosecution showed that her attacker doused her face and whole body with the corrosive liquid; and did it so thoroughly that her entire body suffered burns.
The Good Samaritans managed to rush her to hospital but she succumbed to the injuries.
However, before she took her last breath on January 26, 2018, Njambi told at least six people that it was her husband Njoroge who burnt her.
The six testified before trial Judge Joel Ngugi.
