A woman dumped a new-born baby in Ndigwa Market on Monday night and disappeared. Police are following leads into the bizarre incident.

According to the Assistant Chief of Naya sub-location, Victor Otunge, the infant body was discovered in the market wrapped and placed in a carton box on the roadside of Ndigwa market.

Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo confirmed the incident, saying the infant’s body was dropped at around midnight on Monday, April 15.

”Assistant Chief Victor Otunge reported the matter to Madiany Police station about the body of a new-born baby dumped on the roadside of Ndigwa market. The baby was wrapped and placed inside a carton box,” clarified Kimaiyo.
Kimaiyo said after visiting the scene, the body was moved to the Madiany sub-county hospital mortuary, where an autopsy will be conducted to establish the cause of death. The police boss added that investigations into the matter have commenced and exuded confidence her officers will find the evasive mother and bring her to book.

”We are in the process of tracking and identifying the woman who dumped the innocent baby. This is a serious crime, we have began investigations and an arrest will be made over the heinous crime she has committed,” he said.

He further called on young mothers to end the bad habit of dumping their babies, noting there are organisations in the country that can help them raise the young ones.
