Fears that staff salaries for April among employees of the Siaya County Government may be delayed have been assuage by an internal memo to departmental heads that specifically states the affected cadre are casual workers.
The internal memo also gives the reason for the suspension of salaries for casuals as gaps in the computation of salaries for casuals which has led to inconsistencies in the wage bill.
In order to streamline operations and financial management in relation to casual wages, the County Government of Siaya has decided that payment of wages for all casual workers be suspended with effect from April, 2024.
Subsequently the CECM Governance, Administration & ICT as well as the CECM Finance & Economic Planning have been charged with conducting a staff audit and headcount for all County Government of Siaya casual workers.
Ultimately only casual workers who are cleared by the staff audit and headcount report will be paid their dues going forward.
Also, Departments will only retain casual workers cleared by the casual staff audit and headcount report.
This audit does not affect payment of salaries for other cadres of staff and effectively there’s no cause for alarm.
