Law Society of Kenya president Faith Odhiambo on Monday night issued a statement requesting the Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi to act at once to address the debacle surrounding the subsidized fertilizer program.
The society called for immediate investigation into the horror story and reparations to aggrieved farmers.
The statement also urged scrutiny of all players implicated in fraudulent activities connected with the fake fertilizers.
A letter written on behalf of KEL Chemical Operations Manager Devesh Patel by lawyer Ahmednassir Abdullahi directly implicated the CS Agriculture Mithika Linturi in the debacle.
Late Monday night lawyer Ahmednassir Abdullahi sarcastically posted on his X account:
“Some Kenyans are smart people (Mems Ltd and their sponsor in the Agriculture Ministry). They buy genuine fertiliser at Kshs 190m from a factory in Thika. Then, they add large quantities of sand, rocks, and goat manure. They then get paid Kshs 2.145 billion by National Cereals and Produce Board…making a cool kshs 1.955 billion…and you want to tell me Kenyans are not smart…Wacha bwana!”
