REVEALED: Ruto Move that Sealed Fate of Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi

Members of Parliament on Thursday voted overwhelmingly to form a select committee to investigate the conduct of embattled Agriculture and Livestock Development Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi following the fake fertilizers debacle.

A total of 149 members voted in favour of the motion filed by Bumula Constituency Member of Parliament Hon Wamboka while 36 rejected it. During voting three of the members abstained.

The voting exposed critical divisions in the Kenya Kwanza side as it was expected that the ruling coalition would mobilise members to reject the motion.

However, it has since been established that no lobbying was done by the government side to convince opposition members of Parliament to vote against the motion.

At the same time, it has been revealed that President William Ruto decided to keep off the matter, leaving the members of Parliament allied to him to make their own decision. This was contrary to the expectations that the head of state would at least marshall his troops to save his appointee.

The President’s move not to interfere with the proceedings therefore sealed the fate of the embattled member of Parliament who risks becoming the first one to be impeached in his government.

Insiders sources have revealed, however, that despite President William Ruto and his Kenya Kwanza side failing to give the members of Parliament a clear direction to follow, there were secret efforts to save the embattled Cabinet Secretary.

According to a report by Nation Africa on Friday, May 3, several meetings were held on Wednesday night in an effort to save Mithika Linturi. It would appear without clear directives from the party leadership each member decided to vote along their conscience.

The majority stood firm with the electorate in their resolution to get rid of the Agriculture CS following allegations of Kenyan farmers being sold rocks for fertilizer.

Mithika Linturi’s fate now lies in the hands of a select committee which will ratify or reject the decision of Parliament within a few days.
