Incoming Kisumu Senator Wakili Fred Odumo Nying’uro today Friday, May 10, has marked the National Tree Growing Day by planting trees at Kisumu West, Dago Primary School.
Wakili was accompanied by area ODM Party officials and residents of the areas.
May 10 has been set aside to remember over 215 Kenyans who have died from the nationwide floods.
Interior CS Kithure Kindiki said that the day will help address climate change as “tree growing is the singular long-term solution to the climate crisis and its devastating effects on life and livelihoods.”
During the tree planting Wakili Fred Odumo Nying’uro urged Dago residents to ensure that the exercise was not done merely to fulfil the government directive but as a commitment to conservation of environment.
“For Kisumu to achieve the projected tree cover we must nurture the trees planted today,” said Wakili.
