Ruto Gives Gachagua Oversight Role of Mithika Linturi’s Agriculture Ministry

In a surprise turn of events President Dr William Samoei Ruto on Tuesday 14 May 2024 seconded his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua to play an oversight role in the Ministry of Agriculture.

While addressing a meeting with KTDA Board of Directors and Chairpersons held at State House, Nairobi the president said Agriculture was the mainstay of Kenya’s economy and there’s no way his admininistration was going to take chances with farmers lives.

He further underscored that a good number of Kenyans view agriculture as their pivotal source of livelihood.

As he asked his Deputy to assume oversight role of the ministry the president emphasized on the significance of agriculture. Nonetheless there’s a possibility that the move forestalls the removal of beleaguered Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi.

“Our attention has been focused on the agriculture sector, which is why I requested my deputy to assume an oversight role in this crucial area of the economy—even though there was a Cabinet Secretary on that docket. Over 650,000 farmers nationwide are employed in the agriculture industry. Over 4.5 million Kenyans derive benefits from this industry. It is a crucial industry for both our nation and, more significantly, our administration. You are leaders not just in your manufacturing, but also in what is arguably the most significant area of the Kenyan economy. I ask my deputy to oversee this important sector among others because of the importance I attach to it,” President Ruto said.

Meanwhile calls to have Mithika Linturi resign over the fake subsidized fertilizer scandal continue gaining momentum.

This afternoon President William Ruto met the KTDA team without the presence of Mr Mithika Linturi.

Last week 149 MPs voted to impeach Linturi from his cabinet docket. Yesterday seven members of the special committee set up by parliament to scrutinize the grounds of impeachment absolved him of any wrongdoing.

In the meantime Kenyans are calling on MP Catherine Omanyo to write a statement with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to reveal whomsoever is the culprit who offered her a bribe of up to KES 5,000,000 (five million).
