Chairman of West Alego Elders Forum Mr. Jack Ayimba on Thursday paid a courtesy call on the new and revamped offices of dalanews.co.ke outside Siaya town.
Mr. Ayimba said he was highly impressed with the strides that Africa’s Finest news blog site had made in a relatively short time.
“I wish you tremendous success in your future endeavours and you are a living example of the saying that hard work pay,” said the Chairman.
Mr. Ayimba who is a retired employee of national carrier Kenya Airways earned the title Chairman when he led the Alego Welfare Association, Nairobi branch for a record 30 years. During that time he was involved not only in welfare work but also played a vital role among the Kaloleni Railway social hall group that supported the legendary football club Gor Mahia.
Jack Ayimba saw Nairobi grow from a cluster of buildings during the post colonial era to the brilliant metropolis it is today. His son, the late, Benjamin Ayimba was among the first boys to transition from Eastlands to Westlands through merit and hard-work. He is remembered today as the only player-coach to have won three consecutive world trophies with Kenya’s national rugby team.
While at dalanews.co.ke offices Jack got to meet stellar journalist Noel Anyumba Nyakwaka who has transformed the politics and policy desk as well as Beryl Kandie the sports editor.
Jack noted that while politicians from this region are mainly interested in the local media channels during political campaigns it would be prudent to lay groundwork right now by creating a vibrant rapport.
“Seriously I can now see where you are heading,” Mr. Ayimba told the Editor Lawrence Jeffrey, adding “When you told me about the whole concept in 2020 it was all fuzzy and then there was Corona and am sorry I missed the whole concept.”
DalanewsKe aims at establishing a radio and television station before the end of this year. Plans are also underway to revive the print version which was a broadsheet called Siaya Weekly.
Unlike other publications run by industrialists and politicians dalanews.co.ke is solely run by the public who through goodwill donations assist defray overhead expenses.
This has helped the publication to maintain a singularly unique independence in its editorial policy.
DalanewsKe publishes articles from the Siaya County Government but also highlights issues that are critical of the same government for purposes of objectivity.
On 13 September 2024 the website will be marking it’s 5th Anniversary.
