The County Climate Change Unit (CCU) has embarked on vetting the project proposals that aim at mitigating the impact of climate change on Siaya residents.
According to Water and Environment executive, Prof. Jacqueline Oduol, we have more than 90 applications that have been forwarded by ward climate change planning committees that should be acted on.
The CCU is carrying out the vetting and giving scores as per the set conditions or parameters availed by the Financing Locally–-Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) program.
The vetting unit is composed of experts from Agriculture, Environment, Monitoring and evaluation, NEMA, Public participation and water.
Prof Oduol says that 60 per cent of the FLLoCA funds was to roll our water, Agriculture and environmental projects and must be pegged on County interpreted Development plan and county Climate change action plan.
“The project should be at leastl5 million and must be impactful.
The exercise that started today(Wednesday) will end tomorrow after which the CCU will get to the project sites to ascertain whether they exist.
It’s through the grounds report that will get locals to endorse the projects as a way of confirming that they own them.
“We are here to vet proposals from the 30 wards and want to thank the committees for receiving, compiling and forwarding the proposals to the CCU,” said Prof. Oduol.
“We are now vetting proposals with very clearly laid down procedures. we want to see how these proposals speak to the ward’s participatory climate risk assessment. We want to see how the proposals are linked to the Climate change action plan,” said Oduol.
Some of the proposals vetted were beekeeping, aquaculture farming, agro-forestry, poultry, and tomatoes among others.
