Residents of Kanyanjwa village in Gem West Location of Rangwe Constituency on Friday woke up to the shocking news of the murder of a woman by her two employees.

The two men are said to have murdered Sarah Achieng aged 45 who is a widow. The duo were employed by the widow, one as a shop attendant and the other to run a posho mill.

Sarah Achieng was discovered dead on Thursday with visible injuries to the head.

Speaking at the scene of the incident Kanyanjwa Sub Location Assistant Chief Kennedy Onyango said the deceased appeared to have engaged in a tussle with the assailants before she was hit on the head with a blunt object.

The deep cuts on her head indicated she was hit severally.

“There were blood stains on different surfaces of her house. The woman was attacked before being killed,” Onyango told the media.

Following preliminary investigations the police arrested her two employees on Sunday evening.

The assistant chief confirmed that the two acted suspiciously by going into hiding following discovery of the body.

Although the incident occurred on Thursday, the body was discovered on Friday when some residents went to the deceased house to purchase household items. The residents failed to raise anyone to serve them.

They became suspicious when they saw blood stains near the door.

Neighbours report hearing a commotion from the deceased’s compound on the previous night.

“The people who went to the house to buy items came and alerted others over the death. More residents went to the house and found the body lying in a pool of blood,” the assistant chief said.

In a state of panic the murderers locked the main door leading to the woman’s house. Villagers had to break it down to access the scene.

Rangwe Police Commander Magdalene Chebet said the woman died as a result of strangulation and assault.

“There are signs that the woman was strangulated. Her head also had some cuts to show that she was slashed,” Chebet said.

The police boss confirmed the arrest of the two suspects, saying they are under interrogation at Rangwe Police Station.

“We want to know where the two men were when their employer was being killed. The suspects will as well tell us why they ran away after the incident yet they were supposed to report to their work,” Chebet said.

The body of the deceased is being preserved at the Homa Bay County Teaching & Referral Hospital Mortuary.
