Judge Orders Mental Assessment for Activist Who Interrupted Finance CS Njuguna Ndung’u

An activist who interrupted the traditional Budget Day photoshoot by Treasury Cabinet Secretary outside Treasury building yesterday, caused even more drama as he was arraigned in the Milimani Law Courts.

Appearing before Milimani senior principal magistrate Benard Ochoi, fellow accused Eric Mankuyu denied the accusation, while Julius Kamau Kimani did not take a plea.

Instead, Kimani went on a passionate rant, necessitating a mental assessment ordered by Magistrate Ochoi. Kimani’s outburst in court shed light on his deep frustrations with the government’s handling of socio-economic issues.

In a poignant and fiery speech, Kimani declared that most Kenyans were living in deplorable conditions, accusing the government of neglecting their welfare.

“Poor people are suffering; nobody cares. I don’t know what the role of the government is. I want to know today what the role of the government is. I think we are fed up; the government has failed, everybody has failed, and we have also failed ourselves,” he stated emphatically.

Kimani’s impassioned words resonated with many, as he emphasized his unwavering commitment to speaking the truth, no matter the consequences.

“I want to speak, my dear friends, because when you try to keep me silent, my heart is burning; it’s burning because of this country. I don’t know whether you are going to sentence me; I am ready to be sentenced to 100 years, but I am going to keep speaking the truth until the day I leave this world.

My dear friends, we must resist. Resistance is the only way for this country,” he told the court, evoking a sense of urgency and resistance among his supporters.

This is not the first time Kimani has clashed with authorities. Recently, he was involved in another confrontation during the 60th edition of the Jamhuri Day celebrations at Uhuru Gardens.

During President William Ruto’s speech, Kimani attempted to approach the president, only to be swiftly intercepted by law enforcers. The incident further underscored his relentless pursuit of justice and advocacy for the marginalized.
