Gen Z arrives in Siaya this morning for the much-awaited peaceful protests that are planned to take in all the streets of the small town.
Before they march through the streets of Siaya the entourage will have taken in Wagai, Nyangweso, Kodiaga, Yala, Akala, Ka DO, Aluor, Rera, Nyagondo and finally Siaya town.
Unconfirmed reports have indicated that the team will detour to Gem Constituency Development Fund offices where they expect to be addressed by area Member of Parliament Elisha Odhiambo Akuba who voted Yes for the Finance Bill 2024. They’ve prepared a raft of questions which their representatives will be forwarding to the Legislator.
“With graphs and tables, we expect the MP to explain to us how the Finance Bill 2024 will benefit the ordinary Kenyan. We also expect to be shown some of the development projects which the MP brought to Gem directly as a result of the breakfast he and his colleagues had in State House,” said one of the demonstrators.
Asked whether there was a possibility of the protestors unleashing violence on any politician the youth responded, calmly: “We are not vandals or thugs to unleash terror on anyone. We just want a civil discussion with some people who may know where the money stolen from Kenyans as taxes is taken to. We also want to know whether Siaya County MPs understand that we are not proposing amendments to the Bill but asking for its total rejection.”
Struggling to be on the right side of history,
a few Siaya politicians have indicated that they will be marching in solidarity alongside the youth.
Bondo MP Gideon Ochanda also voted Yes during the second reading of the contentious bill in parliament. Already there are reports that his residence was vandalized. The Gen Z have distanced themselves from the acts of thuggery.
They are specifically known for their scholarly demeanour and cool, sophisticated approach in handling matters.
