Kenyan Youth Breach Police Barricade, Enter Parliament

Just as they had promised in a communique earlier on Kenyan Youth yesterday breached a heavy police cordon outside the National Assembly to gain access to the sanctity of Parliament.

In an unprecedented event Anti-Finance Bill protestors breached security and gained access into the compound.

This happened some minutes to 3.00pm on Tuesday, June 25, 2024.

Members of Parliament who were still within the facility were forced to hide in the parking basement as protestors went riot through their offices and later gained access to the main chamber vandalizing the mace.

In the process several protestors were shot by police two confirmed dead. The numbers would however vary as the cacophony reached a crescendo forcing the Kenya Defence Forces to react.

A police lorry was captured on camera going up in flames outside the premises, as security officers attempted to contain the crowd.

The protesters marched into the tightly guarded buildings despite police firing live bullets in the air. This followed two week-long demonstrations dubbed ‘Occupy Parliament’, in which Kenyans protested tax hikes by the current administration.

Nairobi Police boss Adamson Bungei confirmed to The Standard newspaper that some protestors sustained serious injuries although he was unable to establish the number of fatalities.

A section of the Parliament buildings was set on fire, as the demonstrators thronged the premises.

The military finally arrived and the protesters seemingly out of respect for the superior uniform silently dispersed.

Protestors began leaving Parliament at about 4pm. By 5.00pm on Tuesday, sections of Nairobi CBD were empty, as many exited the chaos.
