Akuba, Ochanda to Get Extra Police Protection in Anti-tax Demos

More than 20 Members of the Kenyan Parliament have reported that their homes have been attacked by goons and property worth millions destroyed.

This comes in the wake of their voting Yes for the contentious Finance Bill 2024. The country has seen nationwide anti-government demonstrations which peaked on Tuesday when members of the public were able to access parliament for the first time in the Kenya’s history.

The events that occurred on that fateful Tuesday led to President William Samoei Ruto withdrawing the bill but that has not stopped the angry youth from ‘disciplining’ Members of Parliament who are perceived as sellouts.

Attacks have now shifted from the Nairobi CBD and trickled to the homes and properties owned by the MPs who voted for the controversial bill.

As a result, on Thursday the Kenya Police Service beefed up the security of targeted MPs by deploying armed officers to their rural homes to ward off unprecedented attacks by mobs in ongoing anti-tax demos.

The MPs are living in absolute horror fearing attacks from their constituents, forcing them to have heavy security around their homes at all times or simply to stay in Nairobi.

In Siaya County Gem MP Elisha Odhiambo Akuba (left) and Bondo’s Gideon Ochanda voted Yes for the Bill.
