Alego-Usonga Member of Parliament Samuel Onunga Atandi was accorded a rousing welcome as he walked through the streets of Siaya town.
In a gesture of muscle-flexing The Legislator who has lately been missing from action in the Constituency was received by throngs of excited residents.
Atandi is the first politician to hold the Alego-Usonga seat for two consecutive terms since the promulgation of the 2010 constitution. He also ascended to the position at the earliest age in comparison to his predecessors.
Lately, the MP has been an object of ridicule for perceived short-handing of his associates and aids.
However, Atandi has shown that he understands the mood of the electorate in Siaya as his popularity is still on a high ebb.
There has been speculation in some WhatsApp forums in Siaya that Atandi has been losing popularity because of dropping off old acquaintances. It now appears he was shedding off baggage as his reputation remains intact.
What was evident from the rousing welcome was that, despite his many shortcomings, the MP still has Siaya town locked.
This afternoon Atandi was the host at Ambrose Adeya Adongo Secondary School where chief guests Siaya and Kisii governor’s James Orengo and Simba Arati commissioned a new building in the school constructed by National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).
Although the group that turned up to cheer Atandi looked like a crowd-for-hire, the Political statement that he is still a force to reckon with in the politics of the region was made.
