Seven people died on the spot when a bus rammed into a trailer on Garissa-Mwingi road at Katumba trading centre.
Police reports indicate that the bus driver lost control and rammed into the stationary trailer that had stalled on the road following a mechanical breakdown.
The cause of the accident was an error by the bus driver who attempted to overtake an unknown vehicle which did not stop and on getting back to his lane encountered the stationary trailer.
“As a result of the accident, 7 people have been confirmed dead while several others have been evacuated to various hospitals,” read part of the police report.
The bus was heading to Nairobi with 50 passengers onboard.
Traffic police officers arrived at the scene to restore traffic flow along the road.
