Barely an hour after President Dr William Samoei Ruto issued a statement at State House Nairobi sacking all his Cabinet Secretaries except the Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Gen Z have reacted with a raft of new demands.
Through a post on activist Boniface Mwangi’s X account they now want the immediate release of all demonstrators currently in police custody and those who were abducted by detectives few days ago. Gen Zs also want justice for the deceased killed by police officers during anti-government demonstrations against Finance Bill 2024.
They have also called for immediate sacking of Inspector General of Police and the reconstitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
Incidentally the banner used for these demands is captioned “Ruto Must Go” meaning that the resentment goes deeper than the sacking of his inept cabinet.
The youth now want a lifestyle audit carried out on Onesmus Kipchumba Murkomen who has been flouting ostentatious wealth without having added sources of income. In the list also goes Aisha Jumwa, Oscar Sudi and one Principal Secretary, Koskei, who commutes from Nandi to Nairobi daily by private chopper.
Gen Z are adamant that the time for talks with the Head of State is over and on Tuesday the 16th of July they’ll be on the streets in another effort to emancipate Kenya.
The president now appears to concede more ground in what may ultimately lead to loosening his grip on power and incorporating Gen Z.
