The race to replace James Opiyo Wandayi as both Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Ugunja Constituency has begun in earnest.

Already the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party has endorsed Junet Mohammed to take up Wandayi’s place as Leader of Minority. This also means inheriting his place as Chairman of the lucrative Parliamentary Accounts Committee (PAC).

While the options were just a few in the Minority Leader role the race to replace Wandayi at the Constituency level is bound to be tight. Already there’s the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party diehard Oyugi Dor who has established himself as a credible contender.

The spotlight however shines on newcomer Chrispine Omondi Budo popularly known as Chris Budo.

An avowed Social Democrat who staunchly refuses to be shackled down by party allegiance Mr. Budo comes across as appealing to the youthful masses more than any other candidate.

“I stand for Social Justice, Constitutionalism, Good Governance, Transparency and Accountability”, Budo told this writer, adding “My primary goal is to enhance reduction of poverty in Ugunja and create opportunities for the young people to access education and quality healthcare.”

Chris Budo appears convincing as he outlines his manifesto that is not much different from that of his predecessor James Opiyo Wandayi.

Ugunja has seen exponential growth in recent times and Budo’s greatest challenge will be to keep the constituency on an upward development trajectory.

Budo enjoys goodwill from youth and women and may ultimately be the man to beat in the Ugunja race.
