The KMPDU Nyanza chapter had invited the County government leadership to shed light on their CBA, Comprehensive Medical care and staff promotions. Fortunately, the County Secretary Joseph Ogutu, noted that the Nyalore administration has implemented the CBA to nearly 100 percent.

“We have agreed in this meeting that as we review implementation of the CBA, the government of Siaya has by and large implemented the CBA to nearly 100 per cent,” said Ogutu adding that ‘the small gaps that still holds staff promotions will be addressed.

While briefing the media the County Secretary further said they delved on matters of profession including training of the health staff, promotions, special recognition and matters staffing.

“We have given response from the health sector to the effect that we have continued to employ doctors. In the near future, we will hire more so that we offer quality healthcare services to all,” said Ogutu.

“We have also generally appraised staff including from other departments whose promotion is long over due and we are working on modalities that would see such promotions effected. Its through such initiative that doctors would have their promotions sail through.”

The CS expressed the county government’s unwavering dedication towards finding a lasting solution to the doctor’s plight.

“The county government of Siaya will continue to address welfare matters of doctors including the working environment and also offer tools of trade required by medical staff to discharge their duties,” Ogutu said.

Governance Executive Agunda Ochanda told the KMPDU officials led by their Chairman Onyango Ndong’a and Administrator Elizabeth Akinyi that Siaya requires the services of their members and were ready to work closely with them for industrial peace to reign in Siaya.

“Siaya is generally a rural setting and would want to ride on the back of KMPDU to ensure we improve service delivery by way of engaging their specialities,” said Ochanda adding, “We look forward for more roundtable engagements with a view to ensuring that services are not in any way disrupted on matters that can be solved through roundtable discussions.”

Dr Ndong’a assured the government officials that peace will continue to reign if the agreed issues are sorted out.

Health Executive Dr Martin K’Onyango, Health Chief Officer Dr Samuel Omondi, Director Human Resource Susan Raba, County Solicitor Leonard Okanda and Director Public Communication Chris Omondi were also present during the discussions.

The meeting comes only a few days following another between Governor James Orengo and Siaya nurses where the former assured them that the issue of promotions was being addressed.
