19 Cabinet Secretaries to Be Sworn in At State House this morning

Following the formal appointment last night of 19 out of 20 Cabinet nominees approved by Parliament on Wednesday, President Ruto will this morning preside over their swearing in.

The event is scheduled to start at 9:00 am at State House, Nairobi.

This follows a formal appointment contained in a gazette notice dated August 7, 2024 issued by the presidency Wednesday night.

“In exercise of the powers conferted by Article 152 (2) of the Constitution, I, William Samoci Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint [the following] to be Cabinet Secretaries of the Government of the Republic of Kenya,” the gazetted notice reads.

Those appointed are Kithure Kandiki, Soipan Tuya, John Mbadi, Justin Muturi, Aden Duale, Alice Wahome, Julian Ogamba, Davis Chirchir and Rebecca Miano.

Others are Hassan Joho, Alfred Mutua, Murithi Muuga, Salim Mvurya, Debra Barasa, Kipchumba Murkomen, Opiyo Wandayi, Margaret Ndung’u, Wycliffe Oparanya and Dr Andrew Karanja.

The Committee on Appointments rejected Ruto’s nomination of Stella Lang’at as the nominee for the Gender Ministry saying she failed to demonstrate adequate understanding of the docket.

Majority leader Kimani Ichung’wah said Lang’at failed to demonstrate adequate knowledge of topical, administrative and technical issues touching on the Ministry of Gender, Culture, Arts and Heritage to which she had been nominated.

“Stella Soi Langat is a career civil servant who has extensive experience in public service but did not demonstrate an adequate understanding of the Gender docket to which she has been nominated and the committee saw her unsuitable for appointment to that docket,” Ichung’wah said.

Those approved will be sworn-in on Thursday at State House, Nairobi from 9am, a media invite by Press Secretary Emmanuel Talam shows.

Kindiki Kithure (Interior) Dr Deborah Barasa (Health), Alice Wahome (Lands) Julius Ogamba (Education), Soipan Tuya (Defence), Andrew Muhia (Agriculture), Aden Duale (Environment), Mureithi Muga (Water), Davis Chirchir (Roads) Margaret Nyambura (ICT).

John Mbadi (National Treasury), Salim Mvurya (Trade), Rebecca Miano (Tourism), Opiyo Wandayi (Energy), Kipchumba Murkomen (Youth Affairs), Hassan Joho (Mining), Alfred Mutua (Labour and Social Protection), Wycliffe Oparanya (Cooperatives) and Justin Muturi (Public Service).
