Social Health Authority: All Systems Go As Siaya County Health Staff Kick off Mass Registration

Siaya county health staff on Tuesday kicked off mass registration of members into the new health scheme under Social Health Authority (SHA).

Officials incharge of Health facilities collected digital registration tablets from the County headquarters.

The Social Health Authority coordinator equipped staff with the relevant digital skills including feeding of data into the systems.

The lead team program manager for Siaya Vincent Ouma urged the health workers not to segregate patients requiring dialysis or cancer treatment.

Similar concern should be accorded patients seeking maternity services at Level II and III hospitals.

“Level II and III hospitals should not deny maternity services to patients,” Ouma emphasized.

He added: “There are several schemes of health that are currently in operation. I know that the scheme covering Siaya County staff was suspended but by Wednesday it will be back and fully functional. All schemes that are active will continue until the expiry date of the contracts before onboarding onto the new scheme.”

A total of 154 tablets were issued to support the registration of patients into the SHA program.

This leaves a shortfall of 20 health facilities that have no gadgets as yet.

Health Executive Dr Martin K’Onyango hailed the initiative saying it would relieve the poor from usually unassailable costs incurred to access quality health care.

“We want the process for rolling out SHA be expedited so that the health workers resume their duties,” said K’Onyango.

K’Onyango while addressing County health facility incharge(s) said the exercise would involve distribution of tablets, feeding of particulars and activation of the systems.

Health Chief Officer Samuel Omondi Owino said the initiative should speedily be embraced by all in order to access quality health care.

The Chief Officer said patients can now make claims for quality services at dispensary and health centre levels.

The coordinator acknowledged that the online registration system was facing challenges, he nonetheless urged members to seek assistance from the technical team at sub-County and County SHA offices.
