When the Ford Ranger registration number KCY 004P Atlas Orange peal in colour was recovered at a petrol station in Sabatia on Tuesday morning the search for Willis Ayieko Onyango grew frantic.
Mr. Ayieko had been missing from Saturday 18th October 2024 as he returned from a burial that took place in Gem Nyamninia. He was reported as a missing person on Monday when the mandatory seventy-two-hour threshold had been met. Since no details have surfaced to the contrary it’s presumed Willis was driving alone when he was accosted either in Kisumu or on his way to Kisumu.
Earlier in the day Willis had skipped an invite to appear at an event in Kakamega, choosing instead to condole with a close friend in Gem Nyamninia.
For someone who has a weakness of hobnobbing with the high and mighty and posting photos on Facebook it would not have been very difficult to second guess his itinerary for the weekend.
A source close to the investigations has told a leading national publication that the video clip recovered from a building next to the petrol station is now key to identifying the two suspects seen leaving the petrol station.
As a matter of conjecture it would be easy to conclude that Willis fell victim to carjackers, after all, one of the two suspects is seen in the video clip tugging away his shopping and valuables.
But there ends conjecture and a larger conspiracy theory kicks in.
Willis Ayieko Onyango is the Human Resource Manager at Wells Fargo Security. Last year the security firm was involved in a KES 94.9 million heist that detectives proved was an inside job.
The money belonging to Quickmart Supermarket was stolen from a cash-in-transit vehicle belonging to Wells Fargo and police officers and employees of the firm were implicated in the theft.
We are not very dumb when we ask: was Ayieko’s disappearance connected to the multi-million heist?
If not, why would ordinary carjackers detain a victim for so long without mentioning a ransom or attempting communication with the family?
From his circle of contacts, Willis was an amenable and friendly person who could have made enemies only in line of executing his professional duties.
His phone has gone off today although it went unanswered since he disappeared.
If it is not work-related, whoever is holding Willis Ayieko Onyango please tell us what you want.
We, his family, friends and the greater Siaya community are distraught in anguish. It can’t go on longer than this because whatever you think you are up to, the police are also closing in.
Release Willis now!
