Ex-minister and Alego-Usonga MP Peter Castro Oloo Aringo is dead.
According to family sources Mr. Aringo died on Friday evening at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi. His wife, Rosemary Aringo confirmed the death on Saturday morning.
Aringo who has been ailing lately was said to have died after suffering a cardiac arrest while receiving treatment.
Details of the death are yet-to-be-verified.
During his heydays Peter Castro Oloo Aringo straddled the Nyanza political scene as a giant. His peers were Hezekiah Oyugi and Odongo Omamo.
The popularity of the veteran politician saw him reelected as MP in Alego-Usonga even after promulgation of the multiparty system.
Aringo was instrumental in the promulgation of several Bills in the Kenyan national assembly. Because of his oratorical acumen fellow members of parliament nicknamed him Castro after the vocal Cuban president Fidel Castro.
Tentative reports indicate that although Peter Castro Oloo Aringo had homes in Migori and Koru he will still be laid to rest alongside his father the late Joseph Aringo in Kakan, Siaya County.
