The latest suspect arrested in connection with the murder of Wells Fargo’s Human Resource Manager Willis Ayieko will be held in police custody for 30 more days.
The 21-year-old Charles Otieno Odhiambo was arraigned before Siaya Magistrate Margaret Wamabani who granted the prosecution 30 days pending the conclusion of investigations.
Odhiambo, who is a boda boda operator, was arrested by police in Kisumu after he was linked to the suspects who are believed to have executed the gruesome murder.
The prosecution, led by Evans Soita, requested the Magistrate’s Court to allow them to hold the suspect as the police and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) continue with the probe.
Magistrate Wambani granted the prayers and ordered that the suspect, who is the fifth in the murder case, be remanded at the Railway Police Station in Kisumu.
She subsequently directed that the suspect be subjected to a mental assessment test, adding that the investigating officers are also granted an opportunity to conduct a forensic examination on his two mobile phones.
Odhiambo now joins two other suspects in custody; Victor Ouma and a lady who was found inside a rented house belonging to the main suspect at Sagam in Gem sub-county.
Two other suspects in the case have so far died; a woman who sustained gunshot injuries during a fire exchange with the police and Robert Wakolo who was killed in Kisumu last week.
The late Ayieko was reported missing on 18th October and found dead five days later at a stream on the border of Siaya and Vihiga counties.
