President Dr William Samoei Ruto today appointed Dr. Rose Chebet Koros as the General Manager and Airport Manager for Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). Prior to the appointment Koros was Airport Operations Manager at the same airport.
Chebet Koros has been working at the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) for over a decade and has held her previous role at the busy airport for close to six years since she was appointed by the authority in 2018.
Before she was appointed as an airport operations manager, Dr. Koros had served as a KAA customer service manager since 2010 at both JKIA and the Moi International Airport.
She had also held different roles at the Nation Media Group (NMG), National Oil Corporation of Kenya (NOCK), Kenya Web, Monarch Insurance and the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).
Her career kickstarted at NMG in 1995 when she assumed the role of an advertising sales executive. She left NMG in 2002 to join the National Oil Corporation.
At NOCK, Dr. Chebet Koros worked as an assistant sales and marketing manager for two years before leaving.
The marketing expert has held the roles of Media Liaison Officer, Marketing Department at KRA and Divisional Manager, Business Development at Monarch Insurance before she joined KAA.
She holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree (PhD) in Business Administration and Management from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) which she attained in 2017.
Also, Dr. Koros holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Marketing from the University of Nairobi (UoN), and a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom), Business Administration and Management from Daystar University.
As an Airports Operations manager at JKIA, the PhD holder is responsible for overseeing the airport’s day-to-day operations by providing leadership and management to achieve business growth, seamless customer experience, safety and security of passengers and airport users in line with national legislations and International Civil Aviation Standards & Recommended Practices.
Other roles include making sure the airport complies with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as Civil Aviation Standards and Recommended Practices, creating and implementing the airport’s strategic plan, budgets, and environmental program and working with stakeholders to ensure efficient service delivery.
Under the leadership of Dr. Chebet Koros, JKIA has seen significant improvements, culminating in the airport recently receiving an award for its outstanding performance.
JKIA in October this year was crowned as Africa’s leading airport of the year 2024.
KAA made the announcement while noting that the award rubberstamps its commitment to improving passenger experience, delivering exceptional service, and enhancing operational efficiency.
The East Africa’s busiest airport edged out six other airports across the African continent which included Cape Town International Airport (South Africa), Casablanca Mohammed V International Airport (Morocco) and Julius Nyerere International Airport (Tanzania).
Others included the Kigali International Airport (Rwanda), King Shaka International Airport, Durban (South Africa) and O.R. Tambo International Airport (South Africa).
“We are thrilled to announce that Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) has been crowned Africa’s Leading Airport 2024 at the prestigious World Travel Awards!” said KAA.
The award was received by KAA Managing Director Henry Ogoye, and General Manager, Marketing and Business Development, Abraham Kiprutto, alongside a dedicated KAA team representing JKIA, Diani Airport, and the Authority’s Head Office during an awards ceremony held in Diani Beach on Friday, October 18 night
