The commemoration saw the widows come face to face with key county and national leaders including the former area Member of Parliament Hon. Peter Odoyo, Retired Chief Charles Ogola and Kenneth Ndhiwa among others.

The colourful event took place at the Moro home of the late Samson Odoyo. Participants were reminded of succession procedures, matters of land, basic fundamental rights and issues touching on gender-based violence.

This year’s apt theme was “Empower Widows and Grow Souls”.

Throughout the event Kisumu County Senatorial aspirant Wakili Fred Odumo Nying’uro, yet again, demonstrated his unwavering commitment to uplifting the vulnerable by supporting the widows with 50 bales of bottled mineral water and KES 5,000 in cash.

Mr. Nying’uro was ably represented by Madam Linda Kadz who referred to the senior counsel as “nyathi nyaguowa”, implying matriarchal lineage of Odumo’s mother coming from Sondu.

The late Samson Odoyo set up the foundation to care for widows and his brother Peter Odoyo who was once area MP and former CAS for Defence has taken up the torch.

Speaking on behalf of Fred Odumo Nying’uro Madam Linda Kadz said the small donation was a testament to Odumo’s belief in community-driven change and honoured the memory of the late Samson Odoyo and his aspirations of taking care of the widows.

“This impactful initiative, rooted in the legacy of the late Samson Odoyo, who founded the foundation three decades ago will thrive under Wakili Fred’s stewardship. By keeping this transformative vision alive, Wakili Fred, as the Kisumu Senator, intends to make hope and empowerment a reality for countless widows in Nyakach and across the rest of Kisumu County,” said Madam Linda.
