The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has summoned Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wa concerning the chaos that disrupted a funeral in Limuru on Thursday, November 28, 2024.

The incident, which occurred at Bibirioni Boys High School, saw goons cause mayhem, allegedly targeting former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

In an official statement, Senator Thang’wa disclosed that he had been called to appear at the DCI offices in Nyeri.

The summons, signed by Officer Joseph Chirchir, indicated that the Senator might have information crucial to investigations into the disturbance, which included malicious damage to property and injuries to individuals.

Despite agreeing to cooperate, Thang’wa criticized the summons, terming it a form of intimidation. He questioned the decision to hold the inquiry in Nyeri, far from where the incident occurred, and declared his readiness to face the investigators.

“This intimidation will neither silence us nor stop us. I’ll see them in Nyeri,” Thang’wa stated.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, present at the funeral, accused the state of orchestrating the disruption. He claimed his security had been deliberately withdrawn earlier in the week, leaving him vulnerable. During the mayhem, Gachagua alleged that goons attacked his car with stones and iron bars, forcing him and other mourners to flee.

According to Gachagua, the attack highlights targeted political harassment following his contested impeachment.

The chaos began as former MP Peter Mwathi attempted to address the crowd, only for disruption to erupt. Eyewitnesses reported that a tent where Gachagua was seated was dismantled, escalating the panic among attendees.

The incident has stirred political tensions, with leaders calling for calm and impartial investigations to establish the culprits behind the disturbance. The DCI’s findings are expected to shed light on the motive and perpetrators of the Limuru funeral chaos.
