Already the team comprising Chief Officer Governance and Administration Walter Okelo, Head of Disaster Management Francis Aola, Metrological Department head Dominick Arodi and sub-County Administrator Vincent Kanyagodi have been dispatched to Uyoma and its environs. The team will work with area MCA and a host of officials in assessing and finding lasting solutions to end human suffering caused by the natural tragedy.

The team visited the broken footbridge located between Uyoma East and Alego-Usonga Sub-county which is separated by the river Yala.

Last year flooding caused havoc displacing over 26 families in Sidundo and Mahur areas of Usonga Ward. Besides pausing a health hazard with the proliferation of malaria and bilharzia outbreaks the flashfloods are disastrous to the economy as they wash away beans and maize that were almost ready for harvesting.

According to residents of Yimbo who accompanied the team one life was lost and three cows submerged by raging torrents of water escaping from the broken bridge.

Governor James Aggrey Bob Orengo through his Chief Officer, Walter Okelo sent his condolences and promised to offer material support to the affected families as a result.

Orengo further vowed that a lasting solution be sought to the perennial flooding problem. He sanctioned the allocation of additional resources by his administration to combat future occurrences.

“The Nyalore administration has put in place humanitarian assistance that will see quick aid delivered whenever an incident occurs. The county government will distribute farm inputs and relief assistance to those whose life depended on the submerged river Yala banks,” said Chief Officer Walter Okelo.

Mr. Okelo was speaking when he received a report by the Disaster Management team who visited the broken bridge site on Tuesday.
