Police in Bondo, Siaya County, are investigating the death of a 50-year-old businesswoman whose body was found at a pathway in Kapiyo village on Monday night.
The body of the businesswoman, who has been identified as Jemimah Randa, was discovered by her son on a pathway a few meters from her home.
According to area Assistant Chief Denis Ojwang’, the woman had closed her shop as usual, but when her son saw that she had not reached home by 10pm, he decided to go out and look for her, only to bump into her lifeless body on the way.
Ojwang’ said the woman had been strangled to death and her belongings, including her proceeds for the day, stolen by the unknown assailants.
The son raised alarm before members of the public called the police who came and took the body to the Bondo sub-county hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem as investigations begin into the matter.
The administrator took the opportunity to caution business owners against closing shop late, especially during this festive season when the insecurity rate is increasing, adding that they should also ensure they do not walk alone at night.
He stated that investigations are going on to identify the killers and called for calmness amongst the members of the public, urging them to give room for investigations to be concluded.
