Saying that she remains committed to dignifying the cause of the girl-child, Julie added that nationwide demographics are not encouraging on issues related to Gender Based Violence.
“The problem is particularly exacerbated when young girls are subjected to School-Related Gender-based Violence (SRGBV) which has very serious negative effects on female students’ lives but is rarely made an agenda in our health strategies,” said Dr. Julie, adding “All forms of gender violence leave victims with grief and depression, low self-esteem and is the main cause of early pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections including HIV/AIDS”.
Dr. Julie revealed that when she takes up as the Siaya County Woman Representative she will roll out an elaborate plan to empower Siaya women and girls at grassroots level.
She commended the admininistration of Governor James Aggrey Bob Orengo for being sensitive to the marginalized and underprivileged groups when mapping sidewalks.
“In the upcoming State of the County Address we hope to hear more of proactive policies touching on People Living with Disabilities, women and particularly the girl-child”, said Julie.
“My message is celebrate, make merry but do not indulge in gender-based violence during this festive season.”
Meanwhile, she called for calm and tolerance among Siaya politicians when tackling potentially divisive issues as she wished Kenyans a merry Christmas and happy New year.
