A large-scale maize farmer whose plantation within the Yala Swamp was found to contain cannabis sativa is on the run.
Following a tip off from the residents, area Chief Central Alego and Acting Assistant Chief Hawinga sub-location Otieno Obota yesterday conducted a raid on the farm and uprooted one pickup full of the plant.
This morning a follow-up to the farm revealed a bundle of the plant as captured on the Assistant Chiefs’ motorcycle.
The farmer has been identified as Onyango ka-Gabriel, a well-known personality in the farming fraternity who is currently on the run.
During the raid a fisherman who had gone to harvest fish-bait oniambo around the farm was arrested. Sources reveal that the fisherman was later released after interrogation.
Police with the aid of the public are tightening the trap on the runaway bhang farmer.
