Barely weeks after President Dr William Samoei Ruto called at his Ichaweri home, former president Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta on Friday dropped a bombshell, blatantly asking the youth to fight for their rights.
Uhuru’s calls were the more baffling, coming as they did on a day when his perceived allies Mutahi Kagwe, William Kabogo and Lee Kinyanjui were being sworn in as Cabinet Secretaries at State House, Nairobi.
“You cannot seat back and watch as everything is being looted….no you must stand up and fight…… remember we are always behind you,” said the former president during requiem mass for a relative at the Nairobi Chapel.
Social media is now abuzz with tales of what might have transpired during president Ruto’s call to Ichaweri.
Last year Kenyan youth known as Gen Z made the country ungovernable with a series of protests against the 2024 Finance Bill. They are also credited with mounting pressure which led to the president dissolving his cabinet.
It now remains to be seen whether the truce that led President Dr William Samoei Ruto to Ichaweri holds any water.
