Siaya Governor James Aggrey Bob Orengo on Monday appointed Gender and Social Services Chief Officer Judith Oyugi as the acting chief officer for Tourism, Culture, Sports and Arts.

This follows the terminal retirement of Peter Asuke in December 2024 after years of service in the County Government of Siaya.

She formally took over the role on 3rd January 2025.

“You are hereby appointed to the Department of Tourism, Culture, Sports and Arts as Chief Officer in acting capacity with Effect from January 3rd, 2025,” read part of her appointment letter.

Ms Oyugi will continue to serve as Gender, Youth Affairs and Social Services Chief Officer.

Mr Asuke was the former CO for Tourism, Culture, Sports and Arts.

Oyugi now holds her third senior position in the Executive. In 2017 Ms Oyugi served in the first Siaya County Assembly as an MCA from East Asembo. In 2023 she was appointed chief officer for Water and Irrigation and also acting Chief Officer for Environment, Climate Change and Natural Resources.

In October 2024, reshuffle that was made by Governor Orengo placed Ms Oyugi in the Education department as the Chief Officer for Gender, Youths and Arts, a position that was vacant.

She was replaced by Michael Oliech Obambo who was previously in the Trade docket in a similar capacity.
