The County Government of Siaya has upgraded six dispensaries to level three facilities as it seeks to improve health service delivery.

According to CECM in charge of Health Dr. Martin K’Onyango crucial amenities will be put up in Rera, Ong’ielo, Boro, Ting-Wan’gi, Urenga and Usigu dispensaries to enhance provision of quality services. The CECM noted that the facilities have ample space for expansion.

The 6 elevated dispensaries have already been registered and published in the Kenya gazette.

Initially there were ten sub-County hospitals in Siaya County including the now upgraded level five facility that is Siaya County Teaching and Referral Hospital while the other nine have been upgraded to level four.

“The facilities will have CT scans, a well-equipped theatre, an Intensive Care Unit, a renal unit as well as oxygen amenities,” said Dr. K’Onyango.

An excited Boro resident, Peter Onyango said: “Lack of these crucial facilities in this hospital has forced residents to travel for many kilometres to seek the services in other hospitals.”

“The facilities are crucial and that’s why the Nyalore administration has prioritised them for rehabilitation and upgrade so that we can expand the range of medical services delivered,” Dr K’Onyango said.

Projects due for launching, he said, include an ultramodern Surgical Theatre Complex at Siaya County Referral Hospital.

The referral hospital’s newly constructed funeral parlour is also at 98 percent completion.

Dr K’Onyango further stated that the Orengo administration had completed the construction of a new funeral parlour in Bondo sub-County and it only awaits equipping and commissioning.

“Our third facility is Yala sub-County hospital where we have on-going construction of casualty/emergency and maternity complexes. The project is at 50 percent completion. It will require 3-4 months to finalize,” said Dr K’Onyango.

Ukwala sub-County boasts of a maternity wing whose construction and equipping is complete.

Recently the County Government of Siaya commissioned Madiany maternity complex.

In the previous year, Ambira’s maternity theatre was constructed and commissioned.
