Photos As Mama Betty, Governor Orengo Roll Out Free ECDE Feeding Program in Siaya County

he Governor also rolled out an ambitious countywide free fortified porridge feeding program targeting all public day Early Childhood Development Education centres in the County.

Orengo thanked stakeholders who include the Rockefeller Foundation, UNICEF and Food for Education for the support and was optimistic that continued partnership will ensure the sustainability of the program.

The Rockefeller Foundation donated one mixture of “uji” per Ward, UNICEF donated cereals and Food for Education NGO has undertaken to construct an additional 30 kitchens per Ward.

Education CECM Dr Edgar Otumba said children will not only benefit from hot meals from Mon to Friday but they’ll now have peace of mind as they concentrate on curricular activities.

Mama Betty Murungi Orengo said the county government is collaborating with the National Government to ensure the programme is sustained within the school terms. She challenged the Governor who is the chairman of the County Budget Economic Forum (CBEF) to make sure the program runs smoothly in order for schools to ensure one hundred percent absorption rate.

The Secretary for County Budget Economic Forum, Alex Odunga hailed the rapid-result initiatives that have been set up by the Governor. He said critics of the Governor are walking on slippery ground as Siaya awakens both socially and economically.

The programme is also being supported by KMET “Nyathi en Mwandu” under the patronage of First Lady Mama Betty Orengo. “Nyathi en Mwandu” initiative promotes nurturing care for early childhood as well as advocating for best, strong foundation for effective growth.

The Siala Kaduol facility accommodates ninety-seven (97) pupils and features three fully furnished classrooms for playgroup, PP1, and PP2, a staff room, toilets, and a modern kitchen complete with a store and water tank. Additionally, it is constructed with walking ramps for physically impaired pupils and those requiring assistance while walking.

Also present during the launch was County Secretary Mr. Joseph Ogutu, CECMs Dr. Edgar Otumba (Education, Youth Affairs, Gender, and Social Services), Mr. Agunda Ochanda (Governance, Administration, and ICT), Prof. Hon. Jacqueline Oduol (Water, Irrigation, Environment, Climate Change, and Natural Resources), Mr. Maurice MC’Orege (Lands, Physical Planning, Housing, and Urban Development), Mr. Sylvester K’Okoth (Agriculture, Food Security, Livestock & Blue Economy), and Dr. Martin K’Onyango (Health and Sanitation).

Others were Chief Officer for Education and Training, Mr. Richard Ogeda, several Directors including Public Communication’s Mr. Chrispine Omondi, and Gem Sub-County Administrator Mr. Willis Oketch, among other County officials.
